The Firestarter Workshop: Inspiration. Passion. Bliss.

Registration is now open!

Who is this for?
The Firestarter Workshop is for advanced photographers who are planning on pursuing careers in wedding photography, and for wedding photographers who wish to strengthen or refocus their existing brands.

What’s it about?
– our shooting philosophy and techniques
– breaking into the wedding industry
– photography as an art form
– influences and inspiration
– finding your own voice
– finding your niche in the industry
– attracting the kind of clients you want
– building rapport with clients
– storytelling
– wedding day workflow
– post-processing techniques
– authenticity and branding

Firestarter has been an amazing experience for us — the preparation and anticipation, being able to collaborate with brilliant creative people on something that means so much to us, meeting young photographers with big dreams and even bigger hearts, and being able to share our story and the things we’ve learned along the way — that we want to do it again.

Firestarter is an exploration of dreams, possibilities, and inspiration. It will not be merely about the whats and hows of pursuing a career in wedding photography, but discovering and owning your whys. It is about finding meaning in what you do, and doing meaningful work.

It is about telling stories and sharing them in your own distinct voice. We are, first and foremost, storytellers. We will tell you our story and show you how our life experiences greatly affect the work that we do, our little triumphs and mistakes along the way, how we have managed to build a business out of being ourselves, and how we attract clients that we actually love.

When: March 16 & 17, 2013
Where: The Peninsula Manila

Limited slots at P12,500 each. There is an P11,000 early registration rate available until February 28, or until the slots are filled, whichever comes first. (It’s only P6,000 to reserve a slot, and the balance will be due on the 16th.) We prefer to keep the group small so we can attend to everyone. The fee covers snacks and lunch at The Peninsula for both days, and there will be a continuous supply of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. :)

We have three guest speakers, people we think very highly of and look up to, and we’re thrilled to have them with us. (How do you write introductions for people who need none?) Nelwin Uy, one of most sought after destination wedding photographers whose incredible work has taken him all over the world, will speak about destination weddings. Benz Co-Rana of Weddings@Work, who helped us greatly when we were starting out ourselves (and countless other photographers over the years), will share insights on what brides these days are looking for and give tips on how to launch a brand that will stand the test of time. And Jason Magbanua, the man, will be joining us again to talk about branding, marketing, and all-around awesomeness. We all learned so much from him during his talk at the first Firestarter, and we’re excited to have him back for this one.

We will have a shoot with a real couple made possible by our brilliant creative partners: Veluz, Chichi Sotomil, and Vatel Manila. The lovely new logo and collateral are by The Fozzy Book. Firestarter is sponsored by VSCO Film, ProPhoto Blogs, Weddings@Work, and The Peninsula Manila.

To see what happened at the last Firestarter, you can read these posts: Rekindling, Ever After on Firestarter: Chips and Fozzy, and feedback from a couple of participants: Nez Cruz and Zeus Martinez. The workshop was featured on Bride and Breakfast and Patty Laurel’s blog.

  1. Can I still register for this FIRESTARTER WORKSHOP ?
    Thanks!

    1. Hi, Robert! Been emailing with your wife already. :) We’ll see you guys on the 16th!

  2. Hello Jeff & Lisa,

I’m browsing in between workloads at the office and I finally had the time to pore through your inspiring blog. I often do this – open a site, browse for 5 minutes, get back to work while having that urge to reward myself with another 5 minutes of browsing after a certain streak of productivity – clearly a reward system that requires extreme moderation as the dangers of slacking off is imminent.

Okay, I think I veered off far enough. First of all, I saw the Firestarter entry after reading your most recent blog post. That got me excited! For an introvert like me who’s never had the guts to join groups and workshops, this is the one time that I’m actually considering investing on a workshop.. your workshop. My life revolves around chasing natural light with a camera and writing, and I’ve always been enamored with the idea of being part of something inspiring, like weddings. Although my heart is currently set on completing my female form and portrait series, I also want to venture out into wedding photography because it emulates my affinity towards expression.

I am delighted with this discovery, which brings me to the question.. When is your next workshop, is it for 2014?

Thank you for firing me up, and for giving me something to look forward to.

    Sincerely,
    Banawe C.

  3. Hi, Banawe. Apologies for the very late reply. I missed this comment somehow. Thank you for the lovely note! We’d be delighted to have you with us at the next Firestarter. However, we don’t have a definite date for the next one yet. We’ll definitely post it here on our blog and on our Facebook page when the date is set. :) All the best!
