Gijo and Bea’s Wedding

Dear couples, of all the things you have to worry about on your wedding day, exchanging gifts shouldn’t be one of them. We get asked this often, if it’s necessary and what to give. It’s not! If you have to, a heartfelt handwritten letter is more than enough. I don’t know how this became a thing that’s done here in Manila. You’re getting married to the one great love of your life. That should be the only thing that matters on your wedding day.

But if you’re looking for inspiration, well, one of the BEST gifts we’ve seen to this day was this – 50 chicken nuggets. Because the groom remembered that the bride said she could demolish 50 chicken nuggets in one sitting.

It was comical to see on the lap of this beautiful, elegant bride in her wedding dress, all set to walk down the aisle, and yet so pure and earnest and cheeky all at once. This gesture alone felt like he listens to even the seemingly inconsequential things said in passing, that he’s in it for everything, all good things and every single bad idea.

With photos of their travels and a travel journal for future adventures together, and in the context of their history — the many years they’ve spent apart as they made their long distance relationship work — it felt perfect. He made her both laugh and cry, and it was all I could do not to do the same. I knew right then and there that this marriage was going to be one of the greats.

This is Gijo and Bea’s wedding.
