Hong Kong, 2011

Jeff and I went to Hong Kong for a couple of shoots last February and extended our stay a bit for some much needed R&R. Besides the shoots and getting to meet another awesome couple whose wedding we’re shooting in 2012, one of the highlights for me was the crate diving. There were two shops selling pristine vinyl records along Ladies’ Market. We don’t really have this here in Manila. We usually have to order ours from this quaint little record store in Los Angeles and wait a month for them to get here. Anyway, we ended up with a box full of records and I hand-carried it all the way home. That and Ned Kelly’s Last Stand, this great little jazz bar along Ashley Road. The musicians were all Filipinos, which I thought was pretty cool. All that and it was freezing cold. Always a good thing.

He talked me into riding Space Mountain with him at Disneyland and I did, despite my better judgment. I didn’t get sick! Even better, I checked one thing off my bucket list — riding a roller coaster without shutting my eyes in fear, never mind the screaming — and wanted to go again. I got all choked up watching the Disney movies I grew up on flash against the castle during the fireworks show. It’s embarrassing, but whatever, nobody knew me there. Haha. And I got to be with my husband as just his wife again. We’ve been so caught up with work since November, and while I’m incredibly, unbelievably lucky to be with him every day, doing the one thing we love doing most, it’s also sometimes a bit difficult getting out of the work frame of mind. I’ve missed him terribly, and I had the time of my life.

Although it’s funny, even when we promised to leave our cameras at the hotel during our personal time, we still ended up taking pictures with our iPhones. When people ask me what we do when we go out on dates, I never know what to say. We do the usual things like catch a movie, have dinner, spend hours in bookstores. But I think, more than anything, we take pictures. It’s inextricably, inexorably a part of us, this need to document life as we see it. It’s what we do. Here are some of mine from the trip:
